PERSONAL PROFILE

Eugenio joined Royal Holloway, University of London in January 2021 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in law in November 2022. He currently serves as the UG Programme Lead for the “Law with” programmes. He holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. from the University of Modena (Italy), a PG Cert. from the University of Bologna (Italy), an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and a PhD from City, University of London. Previously, he lectured at the University of Essex, focusing on company and insolvency law.

A qualified Italian lawyer, Eugenio specialises in sustainable restructuring practices, particularly for local entities in financial distress. He is an Academic Fellow of the Middle Temple and a lead consultant for the World Bank, working on a project exploring the link between climate change and insolvency. Eugenio is also actively involved in several leading insolvency organisations, including III NextGen Class XI, INSOL International, INSOL Europe and the UK Insolvency Lawyers’ Association. He is board member of the III NextGen Executive Committee and co-chair of the Emerging Scholars Group at the Insolvency Law Academy. Eugenio previously chaired INSOL ERA (Early Researcher Academics) and served on the board of YANIL. He is co-editor of the INSOL Europe Academic Forum (IEAF) Conference Proceedings, sits on the editorial board of INSOL i-Read, and is a peer-reviewer for some top academic journals. In his career, Eugenio has received numerous awards, including the silver prize in the 2022 competition in International Insolvency Studies organised by the International Insolvency Institute. 

Eugenio’s primary research interests include the financial distress of local public entities and the role of insolvency and restructuring law in mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable development, particularly in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: “Climate Action”, and UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”. He has also led projects on student debt and discrimination in bankruptcy access for ethnic minority and LGBTQ+ communities at the local Legal Advice Centre.
